Our People Suffered, What Was Happening In Govt Was Intolerable: Maha CM

Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said after the MVA government was formed, people used to visit him because “some people” had no time to meet them.

He also took a dig at his predecessor, who said that people used to come to meet him as the then CM Uddhav Thackeray did not have time to meet him after the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was formed.

“The government came to power and our party chief became the chief minister. We all got down to work. Meanwhile, people used to come to meet me because some people (Uddhav Thackeray) didn’t have time to meet them. Our people suffered, what was happening in the government was intolerable,” he said.

Addressing a rally at Saswad in the Pune district, Shinde also said that he had the support of him and other Shiv Sena MLAs to “save Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena”, which proved to be true with the support of the people.

“Are we rebels, anti-nationals? If we were rebels or anti-nationals, would we have got the support of the common people of the state? Would you come (to the rally) in such a large number? It means our stand of saving Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena was accepted by the people of the state,” he said.

Shinde said the Shiv Sena, despite being in power under Thackeray, was pushed to the fourth position in the local body elections in the state.

According to him, the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress – which should have been out of power after losing the 2019 assembly election – got a “sanjeevani booti” (new lease of life) because of the alliance with the Shiv Sena.

“Had the Shiv Sena-BJP government been formed (in 2019), NCP and Congress would not have survived,” he opined.
