Over 80% Of Eligible Population In Kerala Given 1st Dose: CM

Over 31.8 million vaccines have been administered in Kerala so far

Mumbai: Addressing a press conference, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said more than 80% of the population eligible for vaccination has been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. 32% of the eligible population are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Kerala has administered over 31.8 million vaccines so far.

The state has targeted getting the first dose to its citizens over 18 years by September. It faced a shortage of the vaccine in the first week of September and has urged the centre to provide vaccines for a more continuous vaccination drive.

CM expressed his concerns as there was a rise in the number of Covid-19 patients who were getting hospitalized later after being infected. He mentioned that majority of cases of death due to covid were of those who had not taken the vaccine. Vijayan urged those above 60 years to get themselves fully vaccinated as a considerable number of people in this age group have not taken the jab yet.

He further requested the vaccinated population to follow the Covid-appropriate behaviour including maintaining social distancing and wearing masks. CM also pointed out that despite getting vaccinated, people were testing positive Covid-19 but they might not be severely affected.

The daily covid tally of Kerala on Wednesday was 17,681. Kerala is the highest contributor to covid cases in India.
