Perpetrators Of Bengaluru Rape Case Will Not Be Spared: K’taka CM

Mumbai: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Friday that the state government is investigating this ‘inhumane act’ from every possible angle and that no culprit will be spared.

The statement comes after the Bengaluru police arrested five people on charges of raping and torturing a woman in Bengaluru. It is being told that the victim and the accused are from Bangladesh.

During his visit to Tumkuru district to inspect the preparations for COVID-19, Yeddyurappa said that no one can tolerate such ‘inhumane acts’ and no perpetrator of this crime is spared. “We will ensure that they (criminals) get a severe punishment for such inhuman acts,” he said.

In Bangalore, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters that the state police would not mention the victim’s name in the First Information Report (FIR).

“We have already issued instructions on this. It will be investigated without any interference. We are going to present all the information directly to the court. Around five to six people have been arrested within hours of the video going viral,” the Home Minister said in response to a question.

He said, “This is a joint operation of the Assam Police, Union Home Ministry and Karnataka. The Assam Police and the Union Home Ministry have provided necessary support and leadership, working swiftly on the ground.”

Bommai said the police were aware that some of these accused are hiding in Kerala and they are likely to be arrested and brought to Karnataka in a day or two.

“According to the information revealed so far, all of them are part of the same group and are believed to be from Bangladesh. The victim, who is also a Bangladeshi, was brought to India for trafficking and was tortured and brutalized due to a financial matter,” the officer informed.

Two of the accused persons were shot at by the police on Friday morning. The police said that the duo tried to escape during the spot inspection.
