TN Govt Announces ₹5L Financial Aid For Children Orphaned Due To COVID-19

Mumbai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has announced that children who have been orphaned due to COVID-19 will be provided ₹5 lakh financial assistance. Further, the state government will bear all expenses towards their education till graduation.

An official release said that a special task force has been set up under the leadership of the District Collector to identify the children whose parents have died of the disease and provide the necessary assistance.

The Chief Minister directed the government officials to provide relief for the protection of such helpless children. The decision was taken after consultations with senior officials of the Chief Minister at the Secretariat here on Saturday.

According to the release, the children who died from COVID-19 and left without any support will get ₹ 5 lakh in the form of a deposit in the name of the beneficiary. The amount along with interest will be given to the child on attaining the age of 18 years.

Similarly, ₹ 5 lakh will be deposited in the name of children who have already lost their parents and now have lost the only parent from COVID. Priority will be given to providing accommodation in government homes and hostels to children who have lost their parents.

The CM said that the government will bear all the expenses including their stay till the graduation of such children. In addition, ₹ 3 lakh will be provided as immediate relief to the father or mother of the beneficiary child who has lost his father or mother to coronavirus.

A monthly allowance of ₹ 3,000 will be provided for the care of children growing up with the help of a relative or guardian till the age of 18 years. A special committee will be set up at the district level to monitor the scholarship given to each child and their education and welfare.

“These children and their father or mother will be accorded priority in extending the governments welfare schemes,” the release further said.
