Pilgrims From U’khand Can Visit Kedarnath From May 4: CM

Mumbai: Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Saturday that pilgrims from Uttarakhand can visit Kedarnath and other Himalayan temples in the state from May 4.

Rawat said that the inter-district movement of people is being allowed especially from May 4, especially in the districts falling in the green area, pilgrims from the state can visit Kedarnath.

However, the Chief Minister appealed to the people to maintain social distance while offering prayers in temples as their safety is of utmost importance.

The portals of Kedarnath were opened on 29 April in the absence of pilgrims due to extended lockdown.

Asked whether devotees from outside Uttarakhand would be allowed to visit temples in the hill state, Rawat said that the condition of COVID-19 is a road and his government was waiting for things to normalize. Rawat said,

“After the Kedarnath tragedy in 2013, a similar season of despair gripped people, but we overcame it and brought the journey back on track.”All three districts of the Garhwal region where four Himalayan temples are also known as Chardham do not have a single COVID-19 positive case in the Green Zone from where it has not been reported yet.

While Gangotri and Yamunotri temples are located in Uttarkashi district, Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district and Badrinath in Chamoli district.

All these temples are open except for Badrinath which has been rescheduled to open on May 15 due to the lockout.

Gangotri and Yamunotri temples were opened on 26 April on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
