Plane Carrying 133 Passengers Crashes In China, Casualties Unknown: Reports

Mumbai: A China Eastern Airlines aircraft carrying 133 passengers from Kunming to Guangzhou crashed in Guangxi on Monday, AFP and Reuters reported. The reports quoting Chinese media said that the number of casualties is unknown.

CCTV said the jet involved in the crash was a Boeing 737 aircraft and that casualties were not immediately known. The rescue was on, it said.

According to Flightradar24, the cause of the crash of the 6-year-old 737-800 plane has not been given.

The China Eastern flight from Kunming to Guangzhou departed at 1:11 pm. (0511 GMT), FlightRadar24 data showed. The flight-tracking ended at 2:22 pm. (0622 GMT) Top speed of 376 knots with an altitude of 3225 ft.

It had been due to land at 3:05 p.m. (0705 GMT).

China’s airline industry has had one of the best safety records in the world over the past decade.

Authorities have rushed to the accident site and rescue operations are in full swing.

The exact cause of the China Eastern passenger jet crash is yet to be known and the recovery of the black box would be crucial to know the reason.
