PM Narendra Modi And President Ramnath Kovind Pay Tributes To Vajpayee On Birth Anniversary

Mumbai :  A memorial of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday was dedicated to the nation on his birth anniversary here in the National Memorial.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, BJP Chief Amit Shah and former PM Manmohan Singh joined Rajghat to attend a prayer meeting on the memorial.

Earlier a President Ramnath Kovind also tweeted saying “Remembering our former Prime Minister and a true Indian statesman.”

Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra tweeted a small video tributing former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee, “Tributes to Atal Ji on his Jayanti. We reiterate our commitment towards creating the India he dreamt of.”

Vajpayee was an Indian politician who served three terms as the Prime Minister of India first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, and finally, for a full term from 1999 to 2004.

He was a member of the Indian Parliament for over four decades, having been elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house, ten times, and twice to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house.

Vajpayee suffered a stroke in 2009 which impaired his speech. His health had been a major source of concern; reports said he was confined to a wheelchair and failed to recognise people. He also suffered from dementia and long-term diabetes.

On 11 June 2018, Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS in critical condition following a kidney infection. He was officially declared dead there at 5:05 pm IST on 16 August 2018 at the age of 93.
