PM Narendra Modi To Inaugurate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Today

Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Varanasi. There is a possibility of at least 5,000 delegates from the
foreign candidate community to participate in the Indian overseas conference.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated Yuva Pravasi Bharatiya Divas with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday and said that the Indian expatriate has changed the perception of the world of Indians and India dramatically.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said that the theme of this year’s conference is ‘the role of Indian expatriate in the creation of a new India’.

Jugnout will be the chief guest of the conference, while Norway’s parliament member Himanshu Gulati will be a special guest. New Zealand Parliament member Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi will be a guest of honor. President Ram Nath Kovind will address the concluding function on January 23.

After the Pravasi Divas, guests will be taken to the Kumbh fair on January 24, where a tent city has also been established. They will also see the Republic Day Parade on January 26.

The decision to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was taken in accordance with recommendations of the High-Level Committee (HLC) on the Indian Diaspora set up by the government of India under the chairmanship of L. M. Singhvi (L M Singhvi).

Then the Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee after receiving the report of the Committee at a public function at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 8 January 2002, announced the “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas”(PBD) on 9 January that year. The day was chosen to mark the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915.
