Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana To Be Extended Till Diwali: PM Modi

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation at 5 pm said that PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will be extended till Diwali this year to provide food grains to the poor.

Till November, 80 crore Indians will get a certain quantity of foodgrains per month, Modi said.

Modi said Covid-19 is the biggest pandemic to struck in the last century and the country tackled it on a war footing.

Modi said, “New health infrastructure has been developed in 1.5 years to create a network of Covid hospitals, testing laboratories with ventilator beds. During the second wave in April-May, there has been an unprecedented increase in the demand for medical oxygen.”

The Prime Minister also announced that the central government would provide free vaccine doses for all citizens above the age of 18 years after June 21, with state governments not having to spend money on buying them.

Modi’s address on Monday comes at a time when India continues to fight the second wave of the pandemic and is staring at a possible third wave of infections.
