Punjab Extends COVID-19 Curbs Till June 15; Shops Can Stay Open Till 6 pm

Mumbai: The Punjab government on Monday announced that the ongoing COVID induced lockdown will be extended till June 15 in view of the prevailing coronavirus situation in the state.

The government also confirmed some relaxation in the operation of shops and private offices with immediate effect.

The ongoing lockdown was to end on June 10, however, it has been extended till June 15 following a fresh order from the government.

According to the state government, shops will be allowed to open till 6 pm and private offices will work with 50 per cent capacity. Meanwhile, there will be a night curfew every day from 7 pm to 6 am and a regular curfew will continue on Sundays as well.

With 65 more Covid-related fatalities, the toll in Punjab reached 15,076 on Sunday, while 1,593 fresh infections took the tally to 5,79,560. The number of active cases came down from 24,454 on Saturday to 22,160.

Seven deaths each were reported from Bathinda and Muktsar, six from Patiala and five each from Jalandhar and Sangrur among the fatalities which took place in the last 24-hours.

The state’s positivity rate dropped to 2.54 per cent from 2.84 per cent the day before. With 3,790 recoveries from the infection, the number of cured people reached 5,42,324.
