Pune’s 1st Omicron +ve Patient Tests Negative For COVID-19, To Be Discharged Today

Mumbai: The first person infected with the Omicron variant of coronavirus in Pune city has tested negative for COVID-19, according to Dr Sanjeev Wavare, Assistant Health Officer of Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials said the patient would be discharged on Friday. According to officials, till Thursday, no new case of the Omicron variant has been reported in Maharashtra. Also Read: All 9 Omicron-Infected Patients In Rajasthan Discharged After Testing Negative

A man over the age of 40 said he was happy to be back home.

PMC Assistant Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Vavre said that so far there is only one omicron case in Pune city.

“The patient was tested again on Thursday after 10 days of quarantine. And she is negative and will be discharged on Friday,” Dr Vavre said.

Officials said on Thursday that so far 10 cases of Omron variant have been detected across Maharashtra.

According to the state health department, field surveillance of all international travellers coming here is going on from November 1.

“Through airport and field surveillance, 80 samples have been sent for genomic sequencing. The results of 55 are awaited,” the officials said.

Since December 1, 8,846 passengers arrived from high-risk countries and all their RTPCR tests were done. Of these 13 samples tested positive for COVID-19 and were sent for genome sequencing.

Also, 44058 passengers arrived from other countries and out of these 1,099 were tested. Three people tested positive for COVID and their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.
