Punjab Govt Selling Vaccines To Private Hospitals At ₹1,060: Badal

Mumbai: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the Punjab government is getting COVID-19 vaccines at ₹400 but selling them to private hospitals at ₹1,060.

The vaccine is available but the state government which gets the vaccine at Rs 400 is selling them to private hospitals at Rs 1060.

The SAD president said that private hospitals are arranging vaccines at high prices.

Badal said that if they don’t fix the vaccine rates or don’t give it for free, then we will go to the high court against the Punjab government or get the probe into government formation in Punjab, said Badal and questioned the silence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the issue.

The SAD’s allegation comes after Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday alleged that the Punjab government was charging more than four times the original price of the COVID-19 vaccine purchase and questioned the state government’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Intensifying his attack, Thakur said it showed the reckless and harsh attitude of the state government towards the people by charging four times more than the original price of the purchase and asked why should an individual pay over Rs 3,120 for two doses when the Centre is providing free vaccines to the state.

Accusing the Punjab government of joining hands with private hospitals, the Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs said that the state is creating a false narrative about the shortage of vaccines and ensuring proper immunization facilities in government hospitals.

Why should a single dose of the vaccine cost Rs 1,560 at a private hospital? Punjab government profits while the poor pay this pandemic premium on vaccines, he added.
