Centre Wants To Shift Farmers’ Protest To Haryana’s Jind: Tikait

Mumbai: Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait alleged that the Centre wants to shift farmers’ protest sites from Delhi borders to Haryana’s Jind.

Before calling it a “ploy” by the Modi govt, he said farmers would not leave their protest sites on Delhi’s borders “at any cost”.

Addressing a gathering of farmers in Jind, Rakesh Tikait said, “The central government wants the movement to shift from the borders of Delhi to Jind in Haryana. But we will not allow their move to succeed.”

“They want the movement center to be shifted from Delhi border to Haryana. But we will not leave the borders of Delhi at any cost.

Tikait, however, said that farmers’ protests against the three agricultural laws at various places including toll plazas in Haryana would continue as before.

Several rounds of talks between farmers and the government have failed to break the deadlock over the three central laws.

A government panel had met farmer leaders on January 22. There have been no talks between the two sides since January 26, when a farmers’ tractor rally turned violent in the national capital.

Farmers have been camping at Delhi’s borders since November 2020 demanding that the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 be rolled back and a new law be made to guarantee minimum support price for crops.
