Rahul Gandhi Appears At Mumbai Court Over RSS Defamation Case Against Him

Mumbai: Rahul Gandhi arrived in Mumbai on Thursday morning to appear in a local court for allegedly for linking journalist Gauri Lankesh’s killing with the “BJP-RSS ideology”.

In February, the court of the Mazgaon Metropolitan Magistrate issued a summons in response to a personal complaint filed by Rahul Gandhi and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, a lawyer and activist of RSS, Drutman Joshi.

Joshi had filed a complaint against then Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its general secretary Yechury in 2017.

Lankesh was shot dead outside her home in Bangalore in September 2017, allegedly by members of a right-wing extremist group.

Joshi alleged that within 24 hours of Gauri Lankesh’sdeath, Rahul Gandhi told reporters that “Whoever speaks against the ideology of the BJP, speaks against RSS ideology, is pressed, beaten, attacked And even killed.

It was also alleged in the complaint that Yechury said that it was RSS ideology and RSS people who killed the journalist who was known for criticizing right-wing politics.

The court issued summons against Rahul Gandhi and Yechury, while rejecting the complaint against Sonia Gandhi and CPM, said that the party can not be held liable for comment made by any person.

Meanwhile, another defamation case has been filed against Rahul Gandhi at Bhiwandi in neighbouring Thane district, filed by a local RSS worker, for allegedly blaming the Sangh for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.
