Reports Claiming That I am BJP Man Is Not True, Rajinikanth On Joining BJP

Mumbai: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has insisted on speculation that he may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said that this (BJP) is trying to saffron him, but he will not fall into its trap. His remarks came a day after meeting former Union Minister and BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan.

Speaking to reporters after unveiling the statue of late film director K Balachander in the new office complex of Raj Kamal Films International in Chennai, Rajinikanth said, “Some people and the media are trying to give an impression that I am the BJP man it is not true. Any political party will be happy if anyone joins them. But it is on me to make a decision.”

Referring to a picture recently tweeted by the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP, which saw Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar stealing saffron instead of his usual white shawl, Rajinikanth said, “Wearing saffron to Thiruvalluvar is BJP’s agenda. They are trying to paint me saffron but the fact remains that neither Thiruvalluvar nor I will fall into their trap.

He also confirmed that he will not contest the upcoming local body elections. He said, ‘Till I start my own political party. MGR worked until he was elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, ”a portal quoted the actor as saying.
