Rhea’s Bail Challenged In Supreme Court By NCB In Alleged Drug Case

Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has challenged the order of Bombay High Court granting bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty in an alleged drug case related to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

Rhea was granted bail by the Bombay High Court in October last year. Challenging that order, the NCB has now moved to the Supreme Court.

The apex court will hear the appeal of the NCB on Thursday 18 March.

Rhea was granted bail by the Bombay HC in September, almost a month after her arrest. In its order, the High Court had stated that Rhea was “not part of the chain of drug dealers”.

The court had added that she had not handed over the drugs, allegedly procured by her, to anyone else for monetary consideration.

The Bombay HC granted her bail, stating, “Since she has no criminal case, there are reasonable grounds to believe that she is not likely to commit any offence while on bail.”

Rhea was arrested by the NCB on 18 September last year for allegedly buying drugs for Bollywood actor Sushant, who was found dead in a Bandra apartment in Mumbai on 14 June last year.

Sushant’s death was initially suspected to be a case of suicide, but later a murder angle was alleged after several twists and turns in the case. Rhea was accused of being involved in the alleged murder by Sushant’s family.

Rhea was also accused of being part of the drugs syndicate and for financing the drugs allegedly used by Sushant.

Rhea was also accused of being a part of a drugs syndicate and for financing, drugs allegedly used by Sushant.

In her defence, Rhea had said that she and her brother Showik had become part of a witch-hunt by agencies to blame her for the death of her lover Sushant.

Sushant’s death case is currently being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
