Situation Serious In Ahmedabad, Surat, Thane, Hyderabad, Chennai: MHA On Covid-19 Outbreak

Mumbai: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a brief on its daily Kovid-19 on Friday that the situation is particularly dire in Ahmedabad, Surat, Thane, Hyderabad and Chennai districts which are either hotspots or emerging as one.

MHA said that the Center has formed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) at the district level which will focus on reducing infections in the most affected areas.

The government has recently constituted 5 new IMCTs, two each in Gujarat (Ahmedabad and Surat) and one each in Telangana (Hyderabad), Tamil Nadu (Chennai) and Maharashtra (Thane). These teams will be tasked with the on-spot assessment of the situation and issuing necessary guidelines to the state administration and submitting their report to the centre.

MHA said in a statement today, these teams will use the expertise of central and augmented state efforts to effectively fight and join COVID-19.

IMCTs will focus on a range of issues including compliance and implementation of lockdown measures as per the guidelines issued under the Disaster Management Act 2005. They will also ensure the supply of essential goods; Compliance with social disturbances in the movement of people outside their homes; Preparation of health infrastructure, hospital facilities and sample data in the district among other roles.

The Health Ministry said that till Friday, no new cases have come up in the last 28 days in 15 districts which were earlier Kovid-19 cases. In 23 states and union territories, no new cases of infection have been reported in the last 14 days in a total of 80 districts.

The total number of cases in all states was 23,452 on Friday, with an increase of 1,751 patients in the last 24 hours. Of these, 4,814 have been cured so far. The recovery rate of coronavirus patients in India is 20.5%. The death toll in the Kovid-19 outbreak in India is 723.
