Six Employees Of Iconic Taj Hotel Test Positive For COVID-19

Mumbai: Six employees of Taj Mahal Palace and Taj Mahal Towers Hotel in Colaba, South Mumbai, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

The Indian Hotels Company (IHC), which runs the Taj Hotel chain, confirmed that some of its employees tested positive for the infectious virus, but did not specify the number.

In a statement, the company said that most of them were “asymptomatic, showing absolutely no signs of illness” and said the employees had been continuously tested.

The company said, “However, employees who tested positive and symptomatic tests were hospitalized and others who were in contact with them were immediately put into quarantine.”

Furthermore, it reported that the hotel currently has no guests and only minimal staff are present to ensure the maintenance of the property, it said.

Saying that all its employees were found positive, the Taj is from Colaba, an IHC official said that the property, the Gateway of India memorial scene, has been completely cleaned and no one is going in or out.

In particular, the company (IHC) is hosting doctors and health workers from various state-run hospitals, who are treating coronovirus cases and also providing other emergency services at their hotels in the city.

Speaking to PTI, Dr. Gautam Bhansali, a consulting physician at Bombay Hospital, informed that the employees of COVID-19 positive Taj Hotel are being treated. They are recovering and are now stable.

Maharashtra has become the third state after Odisha and Punjab to extend the lockdown period on 30 April. The decision was announced by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray after attending a meeting with the PM.
