SP Leader Azam Khan Apologises In LS Over His Remark On BJP MP Rama Devi

Mumbai: After sexist remark over Lok sabha speaker Rama Devi, SP leader Azam Khan has apologised for his statement.

As soon as Lok Sabha met after the weekend break, Speaker Om Birla allowed Khan to speak in the House. “I have been an MLA for nine times, a minister several times, a Rajya Sabha member too. I was a parliamentary Affairs Minister too. I know legislative procedures,” he said. “However, if my words hurt anyone, I hereby apologise,” he said.

In the House, he said, “Meri aisi koi bhavna Chair ke prati na thi na ho sakti hai. Mere bhashan aur acharan ko sara sadan janta hai, iske bawjood bhi Chair ko aisa lagta hai ki mere se koi galti hui hai toh main uski kshama chahta hun (I never had any ill-will against the Chair. The House knows about my speech and my behaviour. Yet, if the Chair felt I made a mistake, I apologise for the same).”

However, Rama Devi refused to accept his apology, saying: “It’s his habit to speak such things even outside Parliament. I am a senior MP… he can’t say what he feels like… I haven’t come here as elected MP to listen to such words.”

Earlier, Khan told Devi, “Aap mujhe itni achchhi lagti hain ki mera mann karta hai ki aap ki aankhon mein aankhein dale rahoon (I am so fond of you that I always feel like looking into your eyes).”

This led the BJP MPs to stand on their feet and asked Khan to apologize. The Goddess was quick to react. They pulled up Khan and said, “This is not the way to speak, please highlight these comments,” on which the SP MP said, “You are very respected, you are like my sister.”
