Supreme Court Refuses To Cancel Offline Board Exams For Class 10, 12

Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea seeking cancellation of offline exams for Class 10 and 12 to be conducted by all state boards, CBSE, CISCE and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

The Supreme Court said that such petitions are misleading and give false hope to the students.

The petition was heard by a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar, which last year oversaw the conduct of examinations based on CBSE’s 30:30:40 alternative assessment criteria.

The petition, filed by child rights activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai, had sought a direction to the boards conducting class 10 and 12 board exams to pass a notification regarding alternative modes of examination instead of offline examinations.

Students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are preparing for the final term exams to be held in April despite not taking the offline exams for nearly two years.

Meanwhile, adding to the concern of the students, CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 first-term results are likely to be declared soon. On the other hand, CISCE has already released the results of the first term examinations.

The concern revolves around the fact that online classes have not prepared students for offline examinations.

The petition, apart from asking for notification regarding an alternate mode of assessment, has also sought the constitution of a committee for deciding the formula of assessment of students including compartment students and declaring their results within a time limit, LiveLaw reported.
