“They Should Also Include Quran, Bible And Guru Grant Sahib In The Syllabus”: MP Congress MLA

BJP described the remark by Arif Masood as ‘Selective Secularism’

Mumbai: On Tuesday, Madhya Pradesh Minister for Higher Education Department Mohan Yadav announced that the Epics of Ramanya and Mahabharat will be part of engineering syllabus in the country. Following this Congress MLA Arif Masood said that epics of Quran and other religions should be added in the New Education Policy.

“They have mentioned Ramayana and Mahabharat but they should also include the Quran, Bible and Guru Granth Sahib. India is a country that takes all religions together. It is a secular nation. This will not only protect the Constitution but also clarify the government’s intent,” said Masood.  Also Read: MP Govt Includes Ramayana, Mahabharata In Rngineering Syllabus

Defending itself BJP described this remark as ‘selective secularism’.

Earlier, the minster had said “Teachers of our study board have prepared the syllabus under the NEP 2020… If we can bring our glorious history forward, no one should have any issue with it,”

He had also said that based on the recommendation of the syllabus committee, “Applied philosophy of Shri Ramcharitmanas” has been added as an elective (optional) subject under the philosophy subject for first-year students of graduation (BA) from the academic session 2021-22.

“The Ramcharitmanas has science, culture, literature and shringar (concept of love and beauty in Indian classical art form). This is not about a particular religion. We have also introduced Urdu Gazal as a subject,” Yadav had stated.
