Uber Raises Cab Fares By 15% In Mumbai As Fuel Prices Go Up

Fuel prices have been hiked for the 10th time in 12 days across the country on Saturday

Mumbai: App-based taxi firm Uber has raised fares by 15% for travel in Mumbai to offset the impact of rising fuel prices, the company said.

Fuel prices have been hiked for the 10th time in 12 days across the country on Saturday.

Diesel and petrol prices have increased by Rs 6.40 per litre between March 22, when they were hiked after a gap of 137 days, and by 80 paise per litre on March 31.

“Uber is increasing travel fares in Mumbai by 15 per cent,” said Nitish Bhushan, head of central operations, Uber India and South Asia, in a statement here.

He said the fare hike was to “help cushion” drivers from the impact of the hike in fuel prices, adding that “we hear feedback from drivers and understand that the current hike in fuel prices is a cause for concern.”

In the statement, the online taxi service also said that in the coming weeks, it will continue to track fluctuations in fuel prices and will take further steps “as needed”.
