Unfortunate That People In Power Promoted ‘The Kashmir Files’: Sharad Pawar

Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar said it is “unfortunate” that people in power promoted ‘The Kashmir Files’. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the recently released film is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s.

The film, which has garnered praise from many, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sparked a political stalemate.

“A man-made film (The Kashmir Files) showing atrocities on Hindus. It depicts that in Kashmir, Hindu Pandits were a minority and were ousted during the government led by VP Singh, which was supported by the BJP. It’s shown how Muslims drove out Hindus. It is done to create a sense of fear amongst Hindus. Tensions are particularly created. It’s unfortunate that people in power promoted this movie,” he said.

The veteran leader further said that the country is passing through a situation in which Hindus and Muslims can be divided or Dalits and Hindus can be separated.

“We are going through a different situation in the country now. A different kind of religious division is being done. Where Hindu-Muslim can be divided or Dalit-Hindus can be separated. It is being celebrated,” he said.

Pointing to the BJP, he said there is a unit that is trying to destabilize the Maharashtra government. Pawar’s NCP shares power with Shiv Sena and Congress in Maharashtra.

“They (BJP) have power at the Center and they are missing that power. Two NCP ministers have been put in jail. Every effort is being made to harass Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress.

The NCP chief also said that those who believe in a democracy need to come together, adding his party will never support “these communal forces”.

“Today, efforts are being made to create a rift in the country’s unity in the name of Hindu and Muslim. NCP will never support casteism or a divide on religious lines. All those who believe in protecting the interests of the society need to come together,” he said.
