Unnao Rape Survivor In Critical Condition

Mumbai: The rape survivor from Unnao met with an accident on her way to meet her uncle in the Rae Bareli prison. The victim was accompanied by her aunt and her sister and a lawyer. The truck crashed on to the car headfirst and crushed half of the car on Sunday. The woman claims that the Bhartiya Janata party legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar has allegedly raped her.

The victim’s aunt was declared dead on bringing her to the hospital. The other three were still battling for life. The police also said that the truck that hit the car had its number plate painted black to hide its identity. The car accident happened near Ataura outpost under Gurubakshganj police station limits of Rae Bareli at around 1 pm.

The locals were kind enough to pull the wounded out of the car.

Many opposition parties claim the accident could be a murder attempt and that they demanded an investigation. The rape survivor had succumbed to the ignorance of officials to the case for about one year. On April 8 2018, the survivor tried to immolate herself, in front of Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s house to draw attention to the case.

But later realised that the more light she tried to give to the case, the more damage she had to face. The very next day her father was badly beaten up by people and left to die. Also, the eye witness of the incident died after a few months, mysteriously. Her uncle too was slapped with five different cases and dumped in the prison.

When asked about this case one of the UP BJP leader Chandramohan said, “we follow a zero-tolerance policy on crime. The opposition is smelling a rat. We wish to assure our friends in opposition to not get excited and engage in politics.”

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi lambasted over BJP for delaying the case said if BJP MLA is accused than he should be punished.

The Uttar Pradesh police on Monday decided to hand over the investigation of the incident to the CBI. “The state government is ready for recommending a CBI probe into the Sunday’s mishap in Rae Bareli if the victim’s mother or any relative makes any request in this regard,” Director General of Police O P Singh said.
