UP Woman Accuses Husband Of Giving Triple Talaq Over Dowry
Mumbai: A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has accused her husband of giving her divorce through the outlawed practice of triple talaq. He had been allegedly harassing her for dowry.
The victim, a resident of Inam Colony, visited the SSP office on Monday and complained that her husband had given her triple talaq by beating her.
SP Dehat Suraj Rai said that on Monday, a woman alleged that she was married to a youth of the Gagalhedi area two years ago and her family members had spent Rs 20 lakh on the marriage.
According to her, her in-laws treated her well for some time but later started beating her for dowry.
The victim has said in the complaint that on the night of July 3, her husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and brother-in-law beat her up for dowry and demanded additional dowry. When she refused, she was beaten up badly and then her husband divorced her thrice by saying ‘talaq’.
The woman said she somehow informed her family who reached and got her freed from them. Police are probing the matter and action will be taken in the case after investigation, the SP added.
