Veteran Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away Aged 92

Mumbai: Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92. The Bharat Ratna recipient was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after testing positive for COVID-19.

On Saturday evening, Lata Mangeshkar’s siblings Asha Bhosle and Hridaynath Mangeshkar reached the hospital to meet her. Apart from the family members Rashmi, wife of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, MNS President Raj Thackeray, Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP leader M.P. Lodha and others also visited the hospital to inquire about Mangeshkar’s health.

Lata Mangeshkar, known as the “Nightingale of India”, was the recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour.
Lata Mangeshkar has won several awards including three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in her illustrious career spanning six decades.

She was also awarded its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, by France in 2007. In addition, she was the recipient of honorary doctorates from Sangeet Natak Akademi, Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh and Shivaji University in 1989. Kolhapur.
