Vinai Kumar Saxena Takes Oath As 22nd Lieutenant Governor Of Delhi

Mumbai: Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday took oath as the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at a ceremony at the Raj Niwas in the national capital.

The new 64-year-old Lieutenant Governor of Delhi was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Vipin Sanghi.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several eminent politicians from the national capital including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Delhi MPs and MLAs and top bureaucrats of the city government today.

Notably, Saxena was appointed the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on May 23 after his predecessor Anil Baijal resigned from the post of LG on May 18, citing “personal reasons”.

Sixty-four-year-old Saxena had held the post of chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) before being appointed as the new LG of Delhi. Saxena is an alumnus of Kanpur University with a pilot’s license.

In March 2021, he was appointed as a member of the National Committee by the Central Government to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.

In November 2020, he was named a member of the 2021 Padma Awards selection panel.
