What Are The Major Announcements Made In Delhi Budget 2022-23?

Mumbai: Presenting Delhi Budget 2022-23 of ₹75,800 crores, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said the government aims to generate 20 lakh more jobs in five years.

“Today we are presenting ‘Rozgaar Budget’ which aims at accelerating economic welfare. Through ‘Rozgaar Budget’ we aim to create 5 lakh more jobs in the next five years. I will put plans to take the economy of Delhi on the path of progress and generate lakhs of employment opportunities out of this progress,” said deputy CM Sisodia who also holds the finance portfolio.

The Finance Minister said that Delhi’s economy is gradually emerging from the challenges amid the five waves of Covid-19 and due to this, Delhi’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) can increase by Rs 7,85,342 at the current market prices is likely to increase from Rs 7,85,342 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 9,23,967 crore in 2021-22. There was an increase of 17.65 per cent as compared to last year, he said.

“The real growth rate of Delhi’s GSDP in 2021-22 is likely to be 10.23 per cent, while the national growth rate is estimated at 8.9 per cent. We are again moving back to pre-pandemic economic activity,” he said.

Sisodia said the contribution of Delhi’s real Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at the national level increased from 3.94 per cent in 2011-12 to 4.21 per cent in 2021-22, whereas Delhi is only 1.52 per cent of the total population of the country.

“Delhi’s per capita income is likely to increase to Rs 4,01,982 at current prices in the financial year 2021-22. In the year 2020-21, it was Rs 3,44,136. This shows an increase of 16.81 per cent in Delhi’s per capita income in 2021-22,” the minister said.

Here are the key highlights of the Delhi government’s ‘Rozgaar Budget’:

  • Rs 16,278 crore has been allocated for education, while Rs 1,300 crore for drains, streets, water supply in unauthorised colonies.
  • Five famous markets will be developed in Delhi to create 1.5 lakh jobs and Rs 100 crore has been allocated for this.
  • Rs 9,669 crore has been allocated for the health sector, Rs 475 crore for Mohalla clinics and polyclinics and Rs 1,900 crore for the up-gradation of Delhi government hospitals.
  • Smart urban farming will be promoted, turned into a mass movement in association with Pusa Institute and around 25,000 jobs will be created for women under the ‘Smart Urban Farming’ initiative.
  • Delhi government to conduct employment audit of budget allocations for its departments and agencies.
  • More than 1.78 lakh youngsters got government employment in the last 7 years in Delhi, while 51,307 of them got permanent jobs.
  • A new electronic city will be set up at Baprola in Delhi to create 80,000 jobs through electronics manufacturing. A new start-up policy will be rolled out in the national capital to boost business.
  • Delhi Bazar portal to connect shopkeepers to consumers. Asia’s largest garment market in Gandhi Nagar will be developed as a garment hub.
