Why Should Govt Suffer Loss Of Face Because Of Your Negligence?: Mamata To Police

Mumbai: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee criticised the state’s police force saying that their “negligence” led to incidents of violence and rape.

Facing criticism over the sharp rise in such incidents, she pulled up senior police officers, saying their sources failed to provide them with inputs for such incidents at Bogtui in Birbhum district and Hanskhali in Nadia district.

Nine people, mostly women, were burnt alive in Bogtui village soon after a local Trinamool Congress leader was killed last month.

In Hanskhali, a minor girl was allegedly raped by the son of a local TMC leader and probably died of anaemia earlier this month. His body was cremated without a post-mortem or death certificate.

After getting the order from the Calcutta High Court, the CBI is now investigating the cases.

CM made this statement while speaking in the administrative review meeting at the state secretariat. He asked the police officers of the districts to use journalists in the districts as their source as they have a better network and good contacts.

“Why did the Hashkhali incident take place in the first place? You (police) have no source. Why should the government have a loss of face because of your negligence? The government wants to take action against the culprits without seeing their political colour,” she said.

The CM also expressed surprise as to why the family of the girl from Hanskhali initially failed to give any information to the police.
