The NCP leader was questioned for nearly eight hours in connection with the alleged shady land deal here on Wednesday afternoon.

The development came as a major setback for the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as Malik is the first cabinet minister to be arrested in this way, triggering a shock wave in political circles.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik.

ED officials took Malik to a government hospital for medical examination and he is likely to be produced in a special PMLA court.

An ED team went to Malik’s house around 5 am and took Malik for questioning for allegedly being a mafia in the Kurla land deal.

The ED had summoned security teams of the CISF and Mumbai Police for the arrest, while a large number of Nationalist Congress Party workers created a ruckus outside the agency’s office since morning.

Malik is the first sitting minister and second senior NCP leader after former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who was arrested by the ED on November 2, 2021 in alleged corruption and money laundering cases.
