World Water Day : Water Is Human Right Save Water, Save Life

Mumbai: World Water Day celebrated every year on 22nd March, which highlights the importance of fresh water.

The day is used to advocate sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The first World Water Day, nominated by the United Nations, was celebrated in 1993.

The theme of ‘World Water Day 2019’ is ‘no one is left behind’. This is a variation of the central promise of the 2030th agenda for sustainable development: In the form of continuous development, everyone should benefit.

Today, billions of people are still living without safe water – in their homes, schools, workplaces, farms and factories who are struggling to survive and thrive.

Now you all would be thinking what exactly Safe Water means? Safe water ‘is a managed shield hand for securely managed drinking water service’: Water that is accessible in the premises, when necessary, and free from contamination.

According to the report, in India, more than one billion people live in areas with physical water deficit, out of which 600 million are from high to excessive water-stressed areas.

At the global level, around 4 billion people live in water-scarce areas, where for the least part of the year, demand is more than supply, non-profit organization WaterAid has said in the report.

This number is expected to go up to 5 billion by 2050; Reported on the “surface of the state: The State of the World’s Water 2019” report issued to mark March 22 as World Water Day.

At the global level, 80% of people using unsafe water sources live in rural areas. More than 800 women die every day due to complications in pregnancy and childbirth.

The number of non-profit organizations is taking part in the awareness program to increase public awareness, attract media attention for water issues and motivate action. Activities include publication and release of films, as well as organizing round table, seminars and exposures.

What is need to be done? ‘No One Is Left Behind, we should concentrate on our efforts to include those who have been marginalized or neglected. Water services must meet the needs of marginalized groups and their voices should be heard in decision-making procedures.

Don’t forget “Pure water is the World’s First and Foremost Medicine.”
