16 Metro Stations Closed In Delhi, Heavy Traffic Jam On Delhi-Gurgaon Border Amidst CAA Protest

Mumbai: Around 16 metro stations in the national capital were closed on Thursday as a precaution to prevent protests in the national capital over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.

Traffic to the Delhites through the road will still not be uninterrupted today as some roads were closed and routes leading to traffic snarls were diverted during peak hours

The entry and exit gates of Delhi Metro stations on the Violet Line including Jamia Millia Islamia, Jasola Vihar, Shaheen Bagh and Munirka metro stations are closed on Thursday in the backdrop of protests in the national capital over the neo-citizenship law.

Other stations including Central Secretariat, Mandi House, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk and Vishwa Vidyalaya, Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan Marg, Udyog Bhavan, ITO, Pragati Maidan and Khan Market Station have also been temporarily closed. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement that trains running at these stations will not stop.

On the other hand, a Delhi Police statement said that Road No. 13A between Mathura Road and Kalindi Kunj would remain closed for traffic movement in view of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA).

Police have advised people moving from Noida to Delhi instead of Kalindi Kunj to take them to Delhi Noida Direct Flyway or Akshardham Road.

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which prohibits the gathering of more than 4 people in an area, has been erected near the Red Fort in view of the impending protests. A large number of protesters had gathered in the Red Fort area where Section 144 has been imposed. Some protesters were also detained.
