“26/11 attack is the act of terrorism resolving it was in Pakistan’s interest”, says Imran Khan

Mumbai :  Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that it was in the interest of Pakistan to resolve the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case because it was “the act of terrorism”.

In an interview with Washington Post, Khan speaking on 2008 Mumbai terror attack, said that had asked his government to review the status of the case as resolving it was in Pakistan’s interest.

“We also want something done about the bombers of Mumbai. I have asked our government to find out the status of the case. Resolving that case is in our interest because it was an act of terrorism.”

Imran Khan also claimed that the ruling BJP was “anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan” and hoped that post-bilateral talks could resume after the general elections in India next year.

Elections are coming to India. [India’s ruling party] has anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistan views. They bowed all my overtures …. Let’s hope that after the election is over, we can resume talks with India again” Khan said to ‘The Washington Post’.

In 2008 nearly 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba an Islamic terrorist organisation based in Kashmir arrived by sea route and opened fire indiscriminately, killing around 174 people.  Meaanwhile nine terrorist were killed by Mumbai police, and the survivor Ajmal Kasab who disclosed that the attackers were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba was hanged after handed down death sentence by an Indian court.

After taking charge as prime minister in August this year, Khan said he was ready for peace talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Pakistan had sent a proposal in September for conducting foreign ministerial level talks in New York during the United Nations General Assembly. By which India accepted it but later on rejected the proposal, blaming Pakistan for killing a security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir and accusing it of glorifying terrorism.

Reacting Khan’s comments on the Mumbai attacks, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat told news agency ANI, “We know who did it. I don’t think we have to get anymore statement from anybody. International community knows who did it. Acceptance is good but even without itwe knew who had done it.”

In an interview Imran Khan also spoked about Kartarpur Corridor, now the Indian Sikhs can visit a holy shrine in Pakistan.

“I have opened a visa-free peace corridor with India called Kartarpur [so that Indian Sikhs can visit a holy shrine in Pakistan]. Let’s hope that after the election is over, we can again resume talks with India.”
