5-Yr-Old Girl Sexually Assaulted At Mumbai School; 51-Yr-Old Peon Held

Mumbai: A 51-year-old peon in a school was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in Mumbai’s Mulund, police said.

The incident took place when the victim, who lived in the locality, arrived to play at the school ground on Monday, police added.

He said the 51-year-old accused lured the child with chocolates, took him to a room on the premises and sexually assaulted him before fleeing from the spot.

The victim reached her home and told her parents about the incident, following which a police complaint was lodged, the officer said, adding that the accused has been working in the school for the past 30 years.

“After the incident came to light, we immediately formed a team and nabbed the accused. An offence under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act has been registered against him,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 7 Prashant Kadam said.
