9 Out Of 10 People Affected By Omicron Were Fully Vaccinated: Govt

Mumbai: Sharing results of analysis of 183 Omicron cases in India, the government said that 9 out of 10 people affected by the variant were fully vaccinated.

The analysis revealed that most of the cases of omicrons in India were found in people who had returned from abroad, while only a few cases were reported who were not vaccinated. Also Read: Omicron Cases In India Cross 400-mark, Govt Releases State-Wise List

Bhushan told a press conference that out of the 183 omicron cases analysed, 87 were fully vaccinated, two were partially vaccinated, seven were not vaccinated, and 16 were in the country. were ineligible to receive vaccine doses in the National Immunization Program. Also Read: India Reports 7,189 New COVID-19 Cases; 8.10% Higher Than Yesterday

Government data also suggested that 70 per cent of Omicron cases were asymptomatic while 30 per cent of cases were symptomatic.

“Of the 183 omicron cases analyzed so far, 87 cases were fully vaccinated – two in Delhi and one in Mumbai – having received booster shots, 70 per cent were asymptomatic and 61 per cent were males. The vaccination status of 73 is still unknown,” Bhushan said.

While 73 per cent of the new type of cases, or 121 cases, have a history of foreign travel, 27 per cent of cases were detected in people with no history of foreign travel, an analysis of 183 omicron cases showed.

Bhushan said in 44 cases the infected had come in contact with foreign travellers and information about 18 people were still not available.
