Mamata Writes to PM, Decides Not To Attend Niti Aayog Meeting

Mumbai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, which said that she will not be attending the ‘Niti Aayog’ because it is “fruitless” for them.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Banerjee said, “In view of the fact that Niti Ayog does not have any financial powers and the power to support the plans of the state is useless for me.”

Even before this, Banerjee had left the policy think-tank meetings, expressing dissatisfaction over the disintegration of the Planning Commission and the creation of a new structure.

Modi is ready to chair the fifth meeting of the governing council of Nitya Ayog on June 15.

The Council, Niti Ayyog’s top body comprises all Chief Ministers, lieutenant governors of Union Territories, several Union ministers and senior government officials. This is the first meeting of the governing council under the new Modi government.

The Governing Council is expected to discuss important topics, including key issues related to water management, agriculture and aspiring district programs, the news agency PTI told the sources quoted in its sources.
