AB De Villiers Expresses Desire To Play ODI Cricket For South Africa

The 35-year-old had announced his retirement from the international format on May 23, 2018

Mumbai: After expressing his desire to play the upcoming T20 World Cup for South Africa, AB de Villiers said on Friday that he too wants to play the 50-over format.

De Villiers was talking to commentator Adam Gilchrist during the Big Bash League (BBL) match between the Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers.

However, the batsman said it was important for him to stay fit, and he also refused to play in the longest format of the game for the Proteas.

“I would love to be in it, I would have to score a few runs and be fit and hopefully they would pick me. I was definitely thinking after watching some of the December Test matches that it would be really good to be out there.” But things have changed in my life … I don’t want to play 11 months of the year, that’s too much, “foxsports.com.au quoted De Villiers.

He said, “One day I will not go completely out of the equation, but for Test matches, it is too much.”

The former South Africa star, however, felt that he would need to play a few series before the T20 World Cup to show his form with the bat in hand.

“I would love to play, it was never a problem. I always wanted to play for South Africa, it’s a great honour to play international cricket. I’m chatting with Mark Boucher, Smith and a few others, so this is expected. Works outside, “said de Villiers.

“We have had some good discussion about the possible path ahead. I will obviously have to score some runs,” he said.

In the first match against the Strikers today, de Villiers failed to leave an impression with the bat as he managed to score just two runs.
