Incorrect And Baseless: MCA On Reports That It Will Detain Fans For Booing Hardik Pandya

Mumbai: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has strongly refuted rumours that it will take action against supporters who jeered or heckled Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya on Monday, April 1, during the IPL 2024 matchup between the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The Lokmat Times had earlier stated that MCA will be stepping up security and keeping an eye on the crowd during the game at the stadium. Anybody detected booing or jeering at Hardik Pandya will be asked to leave the stadium.

Since taking over as Mumbai Indians captain in lieu of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has faced criticism. The Ahmedabad and Hyderabad spectators showed their disapproval towards the 30-year-old all-round player by jeering him during the game.
MCA disputes rumours that it shielded Hardik Pandya from teasing.

According to the Mumbai Cricket Association, rumours that security was lowered for the MI vs. RR game in order to keep spectators at the stadium are “incorrect and baseless.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set forth rules that the MCA will adhere to.

“There are rumours that MCA has instructed security against people who support Rohit or boo Hardik, this is incorrect and baseless rumours, no instructions have been given,” MCA stated.

The Mumbai Indians will play their first home game in the 2024 Indian Premier League after playing two away games in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. The five-time IPL winners have yet to register a win in the current season of the competition after losing their last two games to SunRisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.
