“We Are Much Better Than That….”: Virat Kohli After RCB’s Crushing Loss To KKR

Mumbai: Leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli received the “Player of the Match” award from the locker room after his team’s Friday Indian Premier League (IPL) match loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Virat, who scored 83* in 59 balls with four boundaries and four sixes, was presented with a gift basket by teammate Glenn Maxwell after the defeat. After his stroke drove RCB to 182/6 in their 20 overs, Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer’s stunning runs allowed KKR to chase it down with 19 balls remaining and seven wickets remaining.

In a video posted by the RCB’s X handle, Virat was heard saying, “On a more serious note, we had a tough night, we all know that,” after winning the trophy. As long as we accept it and proceed with the same bravery and confidence in our abilities, we are far superior to that. We are limited to it, therefore let’s go down that route.”

Having scored 181 runs in three innings at an average of 90.50 and a strike rate of over 141, Virat is now the bearer of the “Orange Cap” for most runs in the 2023 Indian Premier League. His best score to date is 83*. He has scored two half-centuries.

KKR made the decision to field after winning the toss. Following the early loss of captain Faf, Virat Kohli amassed 65 runs in partnership with Cameron Green (33 in 21 balls, including two sixes and four boundaries) and 42 runs with Glenn Maxwell (28 in 19 balls, including three fours and a six).

Virat led the RCB to 182/6 with a score of 83* in 59 balls, four boundaries, and four sixes. Dinesh Karthik contributed 20* in eight balls, three sixes, and 20 overs.

KKR’s top bowlers were Andre Russell (2/29) and Harshit Rana (2/39). With a blistering 86-run stand in 39 balls, Phil Salt (30 in 20 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Sunil Narine (47 in 22 balls, with two fours and five sixes) got KKR off to a great start in the run chase.

With 19 balls remaining, Venkatesh Iyer (50* in 30 balls, with three fours and four sixes) and captain Shreyas Iyer (39 in 24 balls, with two fours and two sixes) led KKR to a seven-wicket victory after Vyshak and Mayank Dagar (1/23 each) removed the openers.

Sunil won ‘Player of the Match’ on his 500th match for his knock of 47 and one wicket. RCB is sixth in the points table with a win and two losses. They have just two points. KKR is at second with two wins in two games, with four points.
