The Way Ravi Shastri Handled Situation And Supported Us, Made My Job As A Captain Easy: Ajinkya Rahane

Mumbai: India captain Ajinkya Rahane said on Tuesday that he has learned a lot from Ravi Shastri and that his job has been made easier by the head coach in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli.

Rahane captained the team in Kohli’s absence as he was granted paternity leave by the BCCI.

Not many people talk about Shastri on winning India, but Rahane explained how important the coach’s contribution was to the team’s success.

Rahane said in a virtual press conference, “Ravi Bhai’s contribution means a lot to us. The way he handled the situation and supported us not only in this series but also in all earlier rounds.”

He said, ” He had backed us in 2018 also when we won in Australia. I have learned a lot from him personally. The way he supported the team made my job as a captain easier.”

India fielded four bowlers in the series, along with Washington Sundar and T Natarajan.

“The message was bowling in partnership especially this test match. Bowling in the right areas, it was not about an individual, it was about being a collective effort,” Rahane said.

When the team was dismissed for 36 in Adelaide, the world saw the terrible collapse of India. But after the victory in Melbourne in the second Test, the team made an exciting comeback in the Test series.

“What we did after the Adelaide Test is that we didn’t discuss anything. What happened there it was all about focusing on the Melbourne Test match and showing character on the field. We were not thinking about results,” the skipper said.

India’s memorable win has also ensured they toppled Australia in the ICC Test Team Rankings to claim the second spot.
