Afghan Airspace Closed, Air India Flight To Kabul Can’t Operate: Official

Mumbai: The Air India flight to Kabul will not be able to operate after airspace over Afghanistan was declared closed, an Air India spokesperson said on Monday.

“Airspace over Afghanistan is declared closed so no aircraft can operate there. Our scheduled flight to Kabul also cannot go,” an Air India spokesperson said.

The airline had a scheduled flight from Delhi to Kabul at 8.50 am on Monday, but it was rescheduled for 12.50 pm. And after the closure of the airspace in Kabul after a NOTAM was suspended, and Airmen’s Notice – an official notice containing flight operations information – was issued.

On Sunday, airline officials said the national carrier was monitoring the situation in Kabul and would continue scheduled flights to the region for the time being.

Air India Flight 244 took off from Kabul at 6.06 pm on Sunday carrying 129 passengers for Delhi. An Air India spokesperson said, “We are monitoring the situation and are continuing our scheduled flights to Kabul.”

On Sunday afternoon, Air India flight 243 from Delhi to Kabul was scheduled to land at 1.45 pm, hovered in the air near the capital and stalled on landing for nearly two hours as the Taliban entered the gates of capital city Kabul emerged. The flight finally landed around 3.30 pm.
