Air Quality In Delhi Drops To ‘Very Poor’ Category, Light Rains Likely Today

As many as 15 trains are running late due to low visibility in the Northern Railway region

Mumbai: On Monday, the air quality in the national capital fell into the ‘very poor’ category, and light rain is expected in the city today.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall AQI docked at 356 at 6 am, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.

At Chandni Chowk, AQI was recorded at 321, Lodhi Road 355, IGI Airport 346 and IIT Delhi at 331.
An AQI between 0–50 is considered good, 51–100 satisfactory, 101–200 moderate, 201–300 poor, 301–400 very poor, and 401–500 marked as severe or dangerous.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy weather with a possibility of light rain with maximum and minimum temperatures with temperatures of 23 and 9 degrees Celsius.

IMD said in its bulletin, “Heavy rains or thunderstorms are likely to occur in Uttar Pradesh, North Haryana and northwest Uttar Pradesh on Monday along with hail or lightning.”

The Meteorological Department said that a fresh western disturbance in quick succession may also affect the western Himalayan region and the plains of northwest India from January 15.
