The development resulted in a majority of the BJP-led four-day government and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis resigned on Tuesday afternoon.

“Ajit Pawar stepping down as Deputy Chief Minister is a face-saving act. It would have been more humiliating for Ajit Pawar. He looked forward to tomorrow’s floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly. It was expected that he (Ajit Pawar) would leave today Will give. Khadse told reporters.

The senior BJP leader said that his party and the Shiv Sena should resolve the issues between themselves, a decision for the October assembly elections.

Khadse referred to a range of questions about the Shiv Sena and BJP’s earlier demands for the chief minister’s post, saying, “It would have been better for Maharashtra if they had found a solution.”

Khadse said that he is not aware of whether the BJP had promised to share the post of CM for an equal period.

“I think finding a solution (to the deadlock between BJP and Shiv Sena) was not an impossible thing,” he said.

Ajit Pawar had supported BJP as the leader of the 54-member NCP Legislature Party and with his resignation earlier in the day, the government has lost a majority.
