As Death Toll Rises Over 11 In Assam Floods, Congress MP Ripun Bora Notifies Zero Hour At Rajya Sabha

Mumbai: State Congress Committee Chairman and party MP Ripun Bora gave notice of zero hours in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, witnessing the situation of the worst flood situation in Assam. Flood has killed at least 11 people in the state and more than 26 lakh people have been affected in 28 districts.

According to the report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), according to PTI, four fresh deaths were reported from Jorhat, Barpeta and Dhubri districts.

Nearly 17,000 people had to be shifted to relief camps with 3000 villages immersed in water. All water bodies including the Brahmaputra river are flowing above the danger mark.

After getting relief from torrential rains on Sundays, Refuges were opened throughout the state.

In addition to the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management in Assam, Chief Secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna said, “There are some centres where people are not coming to relief camps, they have been provided food.”

Krishna said in a press conference on Sunday that the weather forecast is likely to increase in Assam, and the water level of Brahmaputra will increase further.

Barpeta district is worst affected in all the districts affecting 7.35 lakh people, followed by Morigon where 3.50 people were killed. Other affected areas include Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Morigaon, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darang, Goalpara, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Shivsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
