At Least 5 Killed At Kabul Airport As People Try To Leave Afghanistan: Report

Kabul: At least five people were killed at Kabul airport as hundreds of people tried to forcibly enter planes leaving the Afghan capital, witnesses told Reuters.

An eyewitness told the news agency that they saw five bodies being carried in a vehicle. Another said it was not clear whether they were killed in the shootout or in the stampede.

Earlier, US troops opened fire in the air at Kabul airport as thousands of Afghans crowded the tarmac to catch a flight out of the country after the Taliban takeover.

Afghanistan is mired in crisis as Taliban insurgents move at lightning speed into the capital, Kabul after US troops withdrew.

The Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday and hours later they captured the abandoned presidential palace.

President Ashraf Ghani has already left the country, sparking outrage within and outside the country.
