Avani Lekhara Wins Bronze Medal At Tokyo Paralympics Days After Winning Gold Medal

Mumbai: Shooter Avani Lekhara, who became the first-ever Indian woman to win a gold medal in the history of Paralympics on Monday, won a bronze medal in the R8 – Women’s 50m Rifle 3P SH1 event today.

Avani was fourth at the end of the kneeling round with 149.5 points. The 19-year-old Indian athlete slipped to the sixth spot after the conclusion of the prone round. Avni has 303.4 points after 30 shots.

Starting the elimination round, Avni moved up to the fifth position. Continuing her good performance, the Indian athlete moved up to fourth in the standings at the end of the two series.

In the last few minutes, Avni scored a perfect score to claim the bronze medal. Earlier in the day, Avni reached the finals of the R8 Women’s 50m Rifle 3P SH1 event after finishing second in the qualification round.

Avani shot a total of 388, 393 and 395 in Kneeling, Prone and Standing rounds respectively Avani on Monday had created history by winning the gold medal. The 19-year-old became the first woman from India to win a Paralympics gold medal.

Avani had finished with a Paralympic Record and in-process equalled the World Record with 249.6 points
