This comes, just months before the state is likely to go to the polls in early 2022

Mumbai: Former bureaucrat and close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AK Sharma has been appointed as the vice-president of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh amid talks of tension in the party’s state unit.

This comes, just months before the state is likely to go to the polls in early 2022.

The appointment of Sharma, a former Gujarat cadre IAS officer as the UP BJP vice-president, comes in the backdrop of recent rumors that he may be inducted as a minister in the state government in the event of a cabinet reshuffle ahead of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi last week, sparking rumors that a cabinet reshuffle may be on the cards.

The Chief Minister had also met BJP’s top brass, including party chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his two-day visit to Delhi.

AK Sharma was inducted into the BJP just days after he took voluntary retirement from service. He was fielded as a candidate for the legislative council polls, in which he was victorious, thus becoming a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC).
