BJP Considers Only 80% Hindus In India As Bharatiya: Mani Shankar Aiyar

Congress leader Salman Khurshid in his book, last week, compared the BJP and RSS with ISIS and Boko Haram

Mumbai: Congress party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the Modi govt only considers those Hindus who suit them, amid the controversies over Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s book.

Mani Shankar Aiyar waded into the ‘Hindutva’ controversy saying the BJP considers only 80 per cent of the Hindus in India as Bharatiya.

His remarks came after the book “Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times” by former union minister Salman Khurshid stirred a political storm by comparing the BJP and RSS with ISIS and Boko Haram.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra on Friday reacted to the excerpts of the book and alleged that the nature of Congress is to attack Hinduism whenever they get a chance. He added that the Congress party’s attack on Hinduism is not a coincidence but an experiment.

On Thursday, two lawyers filed complaints with the Delhi police against Khurshid, for allegedly defaming and comparing Hinduism with terrorism in his book.

Responding to those who targeted his book over comparison between Hindutva and ISIS, Salman Khurshid on Saturday said that those ‘poor in English’ should get it translated for clarity.

“There is word ‘similar’ in English which means having a resemblance. I regret that I wrote in English; they seem poor in English, should get it translated for clarity,” he said.

The political storm came at a time when seven states in the country are slated to go for polls. Uttar Pradesh along with Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat go for assembly elections in the year 2022.
