BJP To Add 7 Cr New Members, Totalling 18 Cr: JP Nadda

Mumbai: The ruling BJP is set to increase its membership to seven crores, the total number of members is 18 crore, party executive president JP Nadda said here on Thursday.

Sharing the details of the “successful” membership drive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said that the process of collecting data of seven crore new members were still in progress and once it was completed, the party’s total membership The number will be 18 crores.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, Nadda said that overwhelming support for the BJP was visible during its membership drive as the target was to recruit 2.2 crore members.

He said the party received a resounding response to the membership drive in TMC-ruled West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir.

This was the second round of the membership drive of the saffron party. The first round was held in 2015, during which its membership number reached 11 crores.

The membership campaign began on 6 July, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah launching it from Varanasi and Telangana respectively on the birth anniversary of party ideologue Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

He also shared the schedule of organizational elections at various levels across the country – booth-level elections will begin from October 10, followed by district and state-level elections.

The national-level organisational election of the BJP will be held in December, Nadda said.
