BMC Orders Private Hospitals To Reserve 80% Beds For COVID Patients

Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has directed all private hospitals in Mumbai to keep 80% of the total number of beds reserved for COVID-19 patients.

These beds will be in addition to more than 3,000 beds currently vacant in Mumbai. BMC also asked private hospitals to charge COVID-19 patients as per government guidelines.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said, “We will provide an additional 2,269 COVID beds to our citizens in private hospitals (including 360 ICUs) with immediate effect. This will be in addition to more than 3000 beds currently vacant in Mumbai for covid patients.”

He said that allotment of hospital beds would be done only through 24 ward wise rooms.

“No beds will be allocated directly by the hospitals to anyone. Allotment of hospital beds will be done only through 24 ward wise rooms and hence no one should attempt to get positive COVID reports directly from the testing laboratories.”

On Monday, issuing a circular, the BMC stated that 80 per cent of the total COVID-19beds and all ICUs in private hospitals will be kept reserved only for Ward War Roomallotment to COVID-19 patients.

“No direct admission to any of these reserved beds to be taken by hospitals,” the circular had added. On Monday, as many as 5,888 new cases were found in Mumbai while 3,561 patients were discharged.
